rear axle swap

Hi. I was just wondering if I could swap my rear axle out of my 88 GTA to my 93 Trans Am? I know the rear disc brakes are different, but can I bolt on my rear backing plates and disc brake system to the GTA axle. I just think the the rear in this car is to weak and would rather upgrade it to my old GTA rear I have in my garage. Let me know what you guys/gals think....Thanks, Charlie

Re: rear axle swap

Direct bolt-in yes, but chances are that your GTA has a 9-bolt rear end. If it is the original rear end? Then it does.

While the 10-bolt brakes can be adapted to a 9-bolt rear, they are not a 100% direct bolt-on & will require some mods to be done.

Re: rear axle swap

And the 4th gen rear is 4" wider, 2" per side, so you would have to use the 3rd gen wheels, unless you get aftermarket wheels in a 3rd gen fitment.
