Car: 86 IROC
Engine: 5.0 TPI
Transmission: 700-R-4
Axle/Gears: 2.73 open
valve body replacement
so ,not being well versed in auto trans repair.how hard is it to replace the valve body in a 700-r4? what to look out for? any thing overly difficult? see my trans dont shift out of 1st gear .and ive been told that its valve body has something stuck.any body with knowlege on this subject?any hints or tips?

I would check the govenor gear first.

the only thing that would be in the valve body causing it not to shift into 2nd would be the Tv cable plunger. Other than that it sounds like your 2-4 band is a goner. You will probably have to pull the trans and get it rebuilt or the 2-4 band replaced along with a new 2-4 servo
