Mobil 1 ATF for 700R4?

Hey guys, I was looking some some input. I got the IROC running and was planning on replacing the trans fluid. I have previously used the Mobil 1 in an '05 Taurus that I owned, and it worked very well. Per the Mobil 1 site, it states that the fluid meets the Dexron II and up specifications.

Has anyone else had experience with or used the Mobil 1 ATF? Is there another brand that would be recommended?

The fluid there now doesn't smell great, but it appears to shift fine. I just bought the car no long ago, and I need to replace the trans pan gasket as it is nice and wet underneath in the pan area. I am changing out the fluids on the car each area at a time. Prior owner said there was a shift kit installed. It does shift fairly firmly under throttle. Kinda reminds me of the old Mercedes 300D's :-)

Thanks!

Works fine in a 700. Doubt it will really "change" much of anything, if the trans is working right at the moment; but it's probably about as "reliable" a product as you could use.

I use Amsoil ATF in my Camaro's 700R4 and in my pickup truck's 4L60. The Camaro is relatively low mileage so I don't make too many bold claims there, but the truck has >220K miles and the tranny still works great despite towing fairly often and fairly good size load (~6,000 lbs cargo trailer) throughout the first 180K miles.

Re: Mobil 1 ATF for 700R4?

IMO, Mobil 1, Amsoil, etc. synthetics are just as good but no better than any Dexron rated fluid in normal applications, and they can actually be worse in severe/racing applications. I've used them before but don't anymore. The overriding factor in trans longevity is keeping fresh fluid in it. Trans fluid has detergents that keep wear particles in suspension. When that detergent is used up, those contaminants settle and collect in low-flow areas, which lays the groundwork for future problems.
The best thing you can do on a daily driver/road car is a dump and fill every 50k or whenever the fluid no longer looks clean pink. It's not necessary to get all of it out, just to keep detergents in there to keep the contaminants in suspension. Trans filters are not fine like engine oil filters; they only keep big debris from getting sucked up by the pump.
Don't run expensive trans fluid and expect it to last any longer than parts store Dexron.
