Easy fix or transmission swap?
Ive been thinking about getting a junk yard trans to replace my current 700r-4 but maybe the problem/symptoms can be easily fixed on the transmission and i'll in turn save my self $$$.
Symptoms: When driving at a steady speed...usually 40mph, the rpms start to rise and fall, rise and fall repeatedly until i either lay off the gas or accelerate. Then at 60 mph or so it does it again.
Could this be a simple tv cable adjustment issue, or should i just start junkyard shopping?
It also leaks like crazy when car is on. from pan and cooling lines mostly, slightly from tailshaft.

Just search TV cable adjusting and you will most likely find your answer.

Might be a problem with the tcc lockup cutting in and out. How much do the revs vary - just a couple hundred rpm?
Edit: Ride the brake lightly while it's doing it, without lifting off the gas, that will turn the lockup off. See if the problem stops.

TreeFiddy. I believe it goes up no more than 500rpm, maybe less. It's been a while since I've actually driven my camaro because I don't want to mess it up even more. I'll test drive it and do the procedure you recommended and I'll post the outcome as soon as possible. Thanks for replying. I'll keep you posted.

If its leaking from multiple places its probably in need of an overhaul anyway. How many miles are on it?
TH700 R4's are sensitive. The TV adjustment is crucial to the life of the trans.

You can do the steady brake light thing like treefiddy said.
Or you can unplug the 4-pin connector on the case.
When the car is up to operating temperature (a few miles on the highway should be fine) the problem will either continue (not TCC related) or not be present (TCC related.)
If it goes away by doing that, you should hang a scanner on it to see if the throttle position sensor has a jumpy reading (while you're steady at the pedal,) or see what the coolant temp sensor reading at the ECM is.
Also, you might to tap a test light into the wire that the ECM uses to command lock-up.
