700r4 Help!!!
Hello all.
This past summer (yes its been a while) I was merging on to the high way, and my transmission all of a sudden dropped out of gear. I pulled to the side of the road, the car would not shift into any gear. ( Reverse, D, OD, 1, 2)
The car is a 700R4, with a 305, if that helps.
i will post a video of me underneath my car, the shifter linkage seems fines. Haven't checked the TV cable.
I am just trying to figure out what it could be, also i am in college and money is tight, any ideas???

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
Linkage looked okay. Maybe a little deflection on the bracket but I've never seen it with someone using the shifter in the car myself as I have to do it all myself... move the shifter, climb under the car, climb out, move the shifter, and etc.
I'd start by checking the fluid with the car running.
If it's low fill it.
If it smells like burnt toast you have a good idea what's going on. Probably ate the cluth packs.
Also check your TV cable make sure it's still there and hasn't broke or something that controls line pressure.

The fluid on the dipstick is still rosey red, like it should be. Not to low, not to high.
TV cable i keep meaning to check, havnt gotten to it yet though. How do i know if it is the TV cable? what should i be looking for?

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
that was my fear.
Nope, not any gear at all only park works, and that doesnt help me. RPM's in the engine dont sound like they change either when i put it in drive or reverse. (you know how you are in park and then you put it in a drive and you notice the engine is at different RPM's, yea well there is no change)
I fear the tranny is fried.

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
need to find out if fluid is being pumped-could loosen a fluid line at the radiator tranny fluid cooler and see if any leak /spray occurs while engine runs-put a rag over the loosened fitting to reduce possible mess
Also make sure to use a tubing wrench as fluid line hex is soft steel and may round off if a regular wrench is used.If fluid color is good, unlikely anything is burnt-in all the trannys i have had apart with badly burnt clutches, the fluid was discolored to a golden yellow color. another possible wayTo check tranny fluid circulation is to let car idle for 30 min or so and see if tranny cooler lines warm up-they should if fluid circulating.I f i drive my third today,i'll check how long it takes before tranny lines warm up.

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
interesting you should say that, because it seems like it is over full. If the pump is broken would that stop the transmission from working all together? If so how would i go about fixing this.

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
transmission will not do anything if pump not working-antoine has a good point about the fluid level not changing from engine off to engine running fluid level positions on the stick.Transmission will have to come out and partly apart for inspection and repair of the pump-it is in the front of the tranny behind the torque converter.I'LL check my shop manual to see if there is anything besides a damaged pump that can cause lack of oil pressure/circulation.

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
the day before this happened, the gauge on my bottom right, which has the oil symbol kept fluctuating. kept going from very high to very low, could that be another sign it was the pump?

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
I just checked the tranny fluid level when it was off, and when it was on. The level changed about half an inch or so.

Re: 700r4 Help!!!
