1988 V6 MYSTERIOUS CLUNKING NOISE...

PLEASE HELP!

I have a 1988 v6 Sport Coupe Camaro that im in the process of restoring...HOWEVER, I have run into a problem. There is this clunking noise when I hit bumps and sometime when I accelerate in the rear right wheel area.. I figure its one or two things, either I need new U-joints, or the rear axle bearing needs to be pulled and replaced. But im not sure if either of those things are the culprit! Any ideas? And how much would a quality rear end cost? Mine has alot of seals that are leaking and it connects way slow.. THANKS GUYS!

Take out the rear seat and peel back the carpet, and inspect the uper shock mount.

Yeah I thought about that but I just have the shock a nice tug and it felt solid, should I still pull back the carpet and give it a look?

Sounds like what happened to my first third gen. thought the whole things was coming apart back there. Took it to three mechanics and it stumped the first two. The third one found the lower control arm was loose. He tightened the bolt, and it was fine from then on.

DUH

I felt stupid for not having checked that myself, it sounded so much worse than just one loose bolt
