Not killing a 700R4?
I've done a couple of autocrosses but I'd like to do as many as possible this year with the occasional slideways action in the rain. Seems as though it's really hard on the transmission, but I don't want to cook the 700R4 because I want to keep the car drivable until I have the money to swap in a T-56 later this year or next, since if it bites the dust before then I'd be facing either rebuilding the slushbox or putting in a T-5 despite popular opinions against doing so.
So basically, what about autocrossing is bad for the tranny? Anything that can be done to prolong its life? My technique is generally to just leave it in second and run the course, and I use the same technique when playing in the rain on offramps or back roads (usually use weight transfer or whack the throttle to get the back end out). I try not to downshift but when I do I try to blip the throttle to rev match and when I break traction I try to regain it as smoothly as possible by letting off or upshifting since I know the shock from that can be bad. Last question, does leaving the car in a certain gear (like second) and driving around in a reasonable RPM range wear on anything?

Add extra cooler , with a fan on it to keep fluid cool, will be a big help. Use good fluid. My .02
