Well had my 88 Gta 5 speed for a week now and the t5 progressively has gotten louder at first it whined like a super charger which I've seen in many t 5s now it screams like a locked up pulley or belt squeal in all gears but 4th.has weird vibration in 5 above 65mph to.
It is getting unbelievably louder by the day sounds like a jet in my car. What do you guys think? And think its rebuildable?

 

I dont want to question your intelligence but have you checked to make sure it has the proper amount of fluid in it?

 

Topped it off today was down a quart.but still loud as ever didn't notice any change.
Just don't understand how it can make all that noise without taking a dump?shifts great and reverses great just loudddd

 

Input gear is probably going bad. I've seen that a few times. It takes out the cluster gear too. 4th gear is a direct drive between the input shaft and output shaft so no gears are involved. That's why it doesn't make any noise in that gear. The input gear is comon to all gears except 4th, so that is why it makes noise in all of the other gears.

 

Could I pull the trans n have them replaced to correct the problem?

 

Yes, but it's probably going to run about $600 for parts. The cluster gear is about $300 and the input gear is around $150. that's just a guess. It's been a few years sence the last time I bought these parts. I bought a bearing kit and 1 blocker ring set for a WC T5 a few months ago and it was about $350. check with Rockland Standard Gear and see what the prices are. Be sure to have the numbers off of the tag before you call.

Also, don't go by what I have told you. It could be something else that is wrong with it. This is just my best guess by what you have said and what I have seen in the past.
