Need TV cable help

I will be installing a ratchet shifter this week and I will have the car on stands. I'd like to tackle the throttle valve cable at the same time but I have no idea how it is supposed to be set up. Right now it is shifting too early, it shifts to second gear at about 5 mph under light throttle and the 1-2 shift is very firm/fast, third shifts at about 20 and overdrive at 35. I've been driving it without overdrive and it won't down shift from third unless your going 15 mph or under. I have not been driving it hard so I have now idea how it shifts at WOT, I don't want to burn up the transmission. The engine is a carbureted 383 stroker with a edelbrock performer manifold. The current TV cable looks too long but I have no idea how long it should be with this carb setup. I can't adjust the cable because the p/o glued the ratcheting mechanism for some reason. That is how long the cable is when I take it out of its perch. I've seen there is a cable corrector that bolts to the carburetor arm, do I need one of those or a shorter cable or both
maybe? I showed that picture to a transmission shop manager and he said it looks wrong and to bring it in. I've been wrenching on vehicles for a long time so I'd rather do it myself, I just need some direction with this one.

Re: Need TV cable help

You need a TV cable from a carb car along with the right corrector brackets for the carb

Read the "TV 101 Article", all however many pages. Look through the catalog.

Don't try to half-a$$ it, you will regret it.
