Difference in Transmissions?

Having read all the discussions about the weakness of the T5 particularly when mated to a 350 engine. I am curious as to the difference in the 5 speed transmission that GM factory installed in the 350 5 speed pickups GM manufactured through 97-98.

What is the difference with the pickup transmission?

Why did they live behind a 350?

Are these adaptable to a third gen F body?
