Transmission Vacuum Line Location
Transmission Vacuum Line Location
Hello all. Let me start by apologizing for my ignorance. Having said that, I have learned there is a vacuum line coming from the transmission that makes the car shift correctly, etc. I do not know where this line is or what it looks like. The reason I ask is because I am working on a 1985 Camaro sport coupe with an automatic transmission. The only part of the car that is not stock is the Edelbrock 1406 carb. The car doesn't like shifting at the right times and I am unsure where the transmission vacuum line is. I know how to hook it up, if I can just find the damn thing or know where to look! Like I said, the car is stock except for the carb. Where does the transmission line enter the engine compartment? Thanks in advance.

My suggestion #1 would be to quit listening to old farts who stopped working on anything around 1978 and are giving you guesses as to what's wrong based on cars from pre-third-gen-metholozoic era.
The TH200-C and TH700-R4 used in the vast majority of automatic third gens are controlled by a throttle valve cable. It MUST be connected correctly to the carburetor in order for the T.V. within the trans. to modulate transmission pressure based on throttle opening. If it opens at an incorrect rate, the tranmission may not have enough line pressure for shifts to happen without slipping the clutches or bands.
Blah blah blah. You need to do a little bit of reading.

Re: Transmission Vacuum Line Location
If you're still running the original 4-speed automatic, there are no vacuum connections to the transmission.
You'll need to get the correct carburetor throttle linkage to connect the transmission cable to. Then you need to properly adjust the cable. There should be posts on this forum on what and how to do both.
