Are Moser 26 spline axles decent?
So, in my long research project to get my transmission where it needs to be, I was warned that I may be snapping my axles with a new 700r4 and all the jazz that will come with it. I am hesitant to believe that as I am on street tires, but if I wanted to be safe and go with the Moser 26 or 28 spline, are they good for strength? I know Moser has some great parts and I am willing to bet they are great axles but I think it's worth asking.

Forget it. You"ll typically destroy the spider gears and the ring and pinion before you break the stock axles

Don't replace parts on hearsay.
Inspect them and look into what proper replacement would be. If you were doing a carrier, that would be a good time to go 28 spline; it's a small strength upgrade.

Re: Are Moser 26 spline axles decent?
I usually recommend the 28 spline upgrade. It just seems like a waste of money to buy new small parts when the same amount of money will buy the larger parts.
Inspect your axles for wear where the bearings run on them. If they are worn then they need to be replaced. If they are not worn then they will probably be all right if you only use hard street tires.
If you find that your axles are worn then there is a very good chance that your Auburn differential is just about shot too. That would be a good time to do the 28 spline upgrade with a new Eaton Posi or Yukon Dura Grip and a good set of Moser, AAM or Yukon axles.

Re: Are Moser 26 spline axles decent?
Thanks guys, I was really gonna only go for the axles if I could not find the 26 spline posi unit as I would be needing axles if it's the 28 spline route, and for only $100 more than a used set at Hawks, the Mosers were looking good. The gears should all be fine as I just had it opened and didn't see any gigantic shavings. Like I said before my tires are great for grip, but will break lose under serious strain so I was not too worried about it. Thanks again for the fast responses!
