FLywheel ? Cutting them and Steel vs Aluminum.
Hi, I have a Ram steel Fly Wheel in my car, it is starting to chatter a touch, I was wondering if I should have it cut/trued ? What are pros and cons of this?
Also what do you guys like to run Steel or Aluminum? Thanks

If I had a chatter condition, I'd consider the age & mileage of the disc.
I like to see a flywheel and PP be true perpendicular to the crank. Sometimes you'll see a brand new one of either that has a cone shape to the surface, which prevents the disc. from making use of the friction surface evenly.
If the disc. is totally fine, I'd maybe have the flywheel and PP trued / surfaced and keep running it. Or a brake and clutch rebuilder can sometimes re-line it for reasonable. Or a new disc. is an option.
I like the stock light-weight thirdgen 16lb flywheel just fine. I've driven my current T56 with an aluminum flywheel, and I've driven a few 30lb flywheels; I'll stick with the steel 16, so alum. is just added cost.

I heard Aluminum makes it hard to start off and what not do to being to light.
