Heater core hoses broken while lowering trans/lifting engine?
Heater core hoses broken while lowering trans/lifting engine?
I replaced my 700r4 Transmission on my 88 Iroc which has the 350 sbc.
After she started up, looked like something was on fire(smoke like something burning off) in rear of engine. Antifreeze was pouring down all over the exhaust pipe on the passenger side after or below the collector pipes.
I had leaned the engine back against the firewall with dizzy out to get to the bell housing bolts.
Is it possibly heater core hoses? Couldn't see anything off hand. There is a metal tube or something running along the back of there to, but I don't know if that is air or coolant?
If anyone wants to know what can go wrong with a Transmission swap, just ask
At current my other issue is the fact that I went to put trans in reverse, and she rolled forward a little
I used stock TV cable thinking it was stock and would work. But its really tight at idle. TV cable needs to be adjusted?

Poured out the pass. side exhaust?? As in there is no Y pipe, just open from the manifold // header??
Or pouring off the exhaust??
Go under the car ** safely ** and look for coolent coming from above the exhaust.
Or run your hand from the top side down to the heatercore fittings & feel for coolent.
Is there any wet on the pass side carpet?

When I noticed and shut the car off and looked under. I saw the antifreeze pouring down on the pipe after the collectors. (similar straight down effect from firewall that u would see with oil if u had loose dizzy bolt of rear main sail was gone. Although you wouldn't see as much pouring down
I don't believe any was getting into the cabin or coming from the heater core itself.
Tonight I have a pretty good look at the heater hose back there. I will fire her up in the morning and see if I can see it coming out from the hose up there. And dconfirm / deny if its leaking on inside of cabin by heater core. I see one of the hoses connects from firewall down to a medal pipe coming back into engine bay (I bet I am hoping its not the hard pipe that is broken

IMO
Sounds like broken heater core pipe(s)
TV cable--
Yes, reset it.
Also verify trans fluid level.
Make sure the trans cooler lines are not kinked.

Probably a heater hose burst.
Pretty common, really.
Probably had little or nothing to do with tilting the engine. Just failed, all on its own. The timing is a coincidence.

Re: Heater core hoses broken while lowering trans/lifting engine?
I was noticing my coolant res getting empty just before trans change. won't cry if that is same problem.
Adjusted TV cable if I followed the link correct.
Press in the D, push the shielding part all the way in.
Let go of the D? and pull the throttle by hand.
My shifter cable won't stay on the transmission. Its a white nylon that goes over a medal ball with notch after the ball.
Is there supposed to be something inside the nylon to hold it on? Am I supposed to squeeze the nylon?

separate thing that just arose. With ignition in the ON position. If I unplg the connector from ignition coil to ignition module it stops

normal injector ticking?
I got her started again. enough for coolant smell up top and leaking down, couldn't see anything from up top. Inside is still dry.

Wrong angle, but can get idea of how much is draining, started up about when took video.

Getting a visual on heater core hoses I don't see it dripping down firewall itself or from the soft line fittings
Does this carry coolant?

Re: Heater core hoses broken while lowering trans/lifting engine?
Highest point I can trace the leak to is a puddle that pools on the engine rear of head. Set timing wrong at first and got a couple of fires with piston in wrong position, maybe blew "head gasket" on passenger side rear?
Be a better explination of empty Coolant res and the fact that she usually takes 15 key turns to fire up since the first time I had spark firing in the wrong order.
Note: pool dribbles down over transmission.
