I have a 1992 5.0 I been messing with and I'm down to putting a transmission in it. Trying just to get it on the road and running for a friend to use. It has a blown 700r4 in it. Ive changed so many 700 r4s out and where I'm located there isnt alot of them around. What other transmission will work in here? can I just put a 350 in or what? Im not tryin to get into more work though. Got enough of that as it is that doesnt pay. Thanks for any input.

Re: Trans choices
700r's are prone to fail when you change them out without rebuilding them. I think its the tv cable making them burn up cause the linkage gets slightly misadjusted (from what the tranny was used to all its life) TH350 is alot of work to swap and is the easiest alternative for these cars. Keep the 700 and get it rebuilt if you want it to last.

Just seems to be a common trend when swapping used 700r4 trannys. But what do I know. Maybe its just coincidence that over a dozen times they failed on me and other guys in my area after swapping.

Re: Trans choices
Yeah those TV cables have to be perfect or youll kill the trans easily. Thanks for all the replies. Before I get into buying another trans I'm definitely going to tear the old one apart and look for the problem.

Thanks again

The trans doesn't get " used" to anything.
There is only one correct way to set the TV cable so as to put the TV plunger back in it's correct location.

Maybe the cable wasn't reset correctly after the swap ?
