I have a .59 fifth....it's great on the highway!

The original trans that came with my car was a .73 ratio 5th gear. I seem to remember the tach reading around 2800 doing 70 mph on the freeway...and I had 3.73 rear gears too.

Now I run around 2100...

I've got a 6-cyl car. Anybody want to trade a IROC convertible for it?

That's basically similar to what you're asking for.

I accidentally ended up with one of those .63 gas-mileage deals one time, when I forgot to swap it out in some core I used... I HATED it. I didn't even wait for the trans to tear up again before I ripped it out and put the stock .73 back in. It always felt like it was missing a 4½th gear somehow. RPM was too low in 5th, but the jump shifting down to 4th was too much.

Good luck; but that's exactly what it'll take to find someone willing to downgrade their nice performance setup to the LG4/TBI gas-mileage one.

I always found the .63 and 3.73 to work well together, up to 140mph.

I agree with you sofa, the trans in the car now is .73 and I find it to be a nice drop between 4th and 5th, but I dont do much highway driving. Ive seen posts of people wanting a .63 so I figured Id give it a try, maybe 2 of us can get what we want.

Re: does anyone want to trade 5th gears?

Sorry - I hated running that hard cruising on the freeway with the .73 ratio.

That being said, I'd also hate a .63, or even worse a .59 ratio with a 6 cylinder. On a strictly performance stand point, I would guess you'd want whatever ratio it takes to make it to the finish line without hitting the rev limiter.....not my goal for a street car I take on a highway...

- But then again, I never tried the .59 or a .63 ratio 5th when I ran my 305 in the car...maybe I'd hate it too...
