Rubber hose for tranny lines?

I tightened down the stock transmission cooler lines and they're still leaking around the metal line. I want to go buy barb fittings and cut the lines right before they bend up torwards the tranny and attach transmission hose from the barbs to the remaining section of line with hose clamps, will pressure push the hose off the remaining metal line? What's the measurement of the transmission line fittings? Any pointers on what barbs to buy?

Re: Rubber hose for tranny lines?

When I replaced a rusted section of trans cooler lines on a 2000 Mercury Sable I had, I just cut the metal lines and flared the ends with a brake line flaring tool. I used rubber hose and hose clamps and didnt have any leaks. I don't think you can get barbed fittings for the cooler side since they arent standard pipe threads, but I could be wrong on that.

I only need the barb fittings for the transmission side not the cooler side so I'm in luck there, I have a flaring tool that I can single flare the lines with, thanks for the help, also what kind of hose did you use?

Try re-forming your lines with a flaring tool instead of junking the lines.

If the tapered face of the fitting in the transmission isn't damaged and the tapered face of the line is cleaned up, you'll still have steel lines which are a lot less likely to leak.

I used transmission cooler hose from the local parts store.

The flare seems to be fine, every time I fully tighten the fitting the line is still able to move in and out causing it to leak around the line. I have a cheap flaring tool that won't flare steel lines and I don't have the money to buy an expensive flaring tool so changing the fitting is out of the question
