How is everybody, I have a 84' Camaro here with a TH700R4 that wont shift out of 2nd gear. I hoped it would be the governor so I pulled that out and it looked great. Trans works fine in reverse, first and second doesn't go beyond that. It does, however feel like it goes someplace after second but its hard to tell. It just sort of free wheels. Is this def the clutch pack or could it be something else? I need to know whether to move forward with this now or put it off until I have the money again. Please, anybody with similar troubles please respond.

 

cant remember if that trans has a vacume module on the outside of the trans somewhere around the pan, its been awhile sense if looked at one that old, sometimes that might be the problem. again not sure. if I see anything about it i'll post it

 

No modulator. 3/4 clutch pack sounds smoked. Once they stop going past 2nd gear they are pretty much done. I'm sure someone else will concur.

 

It's a good bet the 3-4 clutch pack is toast.

This happens with the 4L60e as well. I'm about ready to pull the trans out of my '03 GMC this weekend. I just need to clear out some garage space.

 

I've went through 3-4 tranny's with the exact same problem. In every case...I've had to have them rebuilt. I've been told it's from an incorrect TV cable setting. Good luck to ya!!
