Why?
Why?
Why did GM design the t-5 bellhousing so the transmission is tilted at an angle? Such a pain in the *** if you want to put a different transmission in and not make some halfass wedge to mount it to the crossmember... I've been googleing the answer and cant find it anywhere...

Re: Why?
If you are swapping out the transmission and want to do so correctly you should get the right corresponding crossmember and transmission mount. No need to make a wedge.

Re: Why?
They did it for the shifter position.
The tailhousing, shifter, and bellousing were all that needed changed to make the T5 fit the third-gen very well. The depth of the shifter lever under the shifter is set among a huge number of Borg-Warner derived models. Running a longer upper lever with a z or other bend would hurt shift characteristics. And adding a canted box along the side of the tailhousing or additional fulcrum point isn't a good overall solution either.
What's this Google of which you speak?
