Need a tranny for my 83 V6 Firebird. Going parts yard hunting but was wondering if anything besides 3rd gens bolted in?

What about the 4th gen V6 T5?

 

3rd gen v6 are the only direct replacements. S10s are very similar requiring only the tail housing and shift rail swapped over

4th gen units are different. They use the ford trans to bell bolt pattern with 26sp input shaft like the v8 units, but keep the crappy v6 ratios. A complete 3.4 t5 might work minus VSS issues, but I'm not 100%. Most want to use 4th gen t5s behind sbcs which is a large task

 

Ah, figures. And since it's an 83 I need to find another 82-84 manual clutch V6 tranny right? I'm sure those are plentiful still (rolls eyes)

 

The 83 bellhousing is all that is needed to run an 83 with a trans from a hydraulic year. Plan on re-using your speedo gears too.

 

Awesome! So any 82-92 V6 tranny will bolt in long as I use my stuff? Good to know. Helps broaden the search a bit
