84 camaro rear axle assy fit a 92 camaro?

Hi everyone.

I currently have a 92 camaro rs with a bad rear (growls around 30+ mph and stops when let off gas) a friend has an 84 camaro with 3.08 gears and he will sell me the complete rear out of it for $75

my question is with this rear fit my 92 or will I need to do major modifications? both have drum brakes.

thanks
mark

Should be exactly the same however you'll be downgrading from 28 spline to 26 spline axles.

Your RS will have 2.73 gears so swapping the diff to the 3.08 gears means your speedometer will be off.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of too making my speedometer off. So I guess no mater what gear ratio I increase to my speedometer will be off. Is there a way to correct it?

you just need the right gear for the speedometer.its really easy to change. bought mine at the chevy dealer.i don't know if they are still available.maybe your friend could include the gear since he doesn't need it anymore.SAVE the axles from the 92 rearend.you can swap in a 4th gen posi with them.
