9 bolt Rear End Questions

I have a built 88 Firebird Formula with the 9 bolt Borg Warner rear end. The Ring and pinion gears blew out a few days ago. I took the axle to a shop(because I am not comfortable messing with the gears myself) and they tore it apart. They are telling me they can't get the proper parts for it. They can get the bearings/seals and only a 3.70 gear set for it. Also they can't get a new posi locker for it saying mine is really worn out. I don't want to spend a bunch of money and not have everything done right. I know about www.9bolt.com where I can get these parts but these are used parts although in good condition I am leery. I am also under a bit of time crunch.

So here are my questions.

Can I just swap out for a 02 Camaro Rear end? I found one with 900 miles on it and 3.40 gears/posi

If I could swap, will everything bolt right up? Torque arms, sway bars, etc.
I know that this rear end is a bit wider but I am not concerned about that in itself.

Can I expect this to hold up as well as my 9 bolt did? It was built as well but I bought it that way. I put 400 hp+ to at the tires.

Thank you in advance.

Re: 9 bolt Rear End Questions

Awesome.

Just to make sure.
I should expect an 02 rear end to be able to handle atleast the same power my 9 bolt did correct?

The 9 bolt are stronger than the 3rd and 4th gen 10 bolt.

I got a posi from 9bolt.com. Seems fine, fully rebuilt. They also have spider gears etc.
Search "9bolt here and read "everything I know about the 9 bolt".
AutoZone has all the bearings, you can sometimes rebuild your posi, reuse your ring gear bolts, don't get them from Ratech, they have the wrong head size.
Ring and pinion sets are available from several suppliers.
