im about to do mine here soon to replace the th400 , u will need xmember and either fab up a tq arm mount or get a xmember mounted tq arm.

need a new drive shaft
and i think i read u need to do a lil bit of banging in the tunnel with a big hammer for clearance in a few spots

Close...You will need to fab up a cross member and torque arm mount, you can use your stock drive shaft, I didn't have to do any hammering to get mine in. I am using an early model year trans though.

You will also need a way to control it...oh don't for get shifter linkage.

All in all not a hard swap...glad I did it. I beat the hell out of it and it holds up great.

Been wondering this myself???? Measuring the 4L80E I acquired it measured 1.5" longer than the 4L60E so driveshaft shortening would be a must.

Well i dont mind banging the tunnel well just the actual fabricating work is what i can't do thats why wanted to see what needs to be done. Ima be running about 480rwhp n/a with a 150 shot so im trying to see if im best buying a built 4l60e or just buying a 4l80e. Ima be runnins lsx so i got a way to control it

So the consensus is that the drive shft tunnel doesn't have to cut up and severly beat up to fit this trans? I've seen the 4L80 and 4L60 side by side and the 80 looks pretty beefy in comparison.
