Car: 1983 Camaro z28

Engine: 350

Transmission: 700r4

Axle/Gears: 2.93 posi

what does this do? and whats it for?

Hey when I bought my Camaro it was (and still is) in a million pieces. One of the things I found was this electronic servo band adjuster. The car came with a 700r4, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a 700r4 all mechanical? If so does anyone know what this is for? Thanks
