question about T5 removal.

I have a 1986 base firebird with a manual T-5 transmission that needs the throwout bearing replaced. i have removed all the bolts necessary and have almost removed the transmission from the bell housing but can not due to the shifter in the way. the **** screwed off, will the rest of the stick do the same? i felt no screws/nuts and bolts connecting it.

Re: question about T5 removal.

It's bolted directly to the transmission tailshaft. You have to remove the center console, then the rubber boot underneath. The you can get to the bolts.

Re: question about T5 removal.

The bolts under the boot, are they the top plate? I really do not want to remove the center console because the PO really did a number on the bolts and plastics.

Re: question about T5 removal.

Easy enough to put a floor jack under it, take out the crossmember, lower it, and use a 13mm wrench to take the shifter bolts out.
