General Fuel Injector questions; TPI specific

I got this 1991 Formula as a non-runner. It needed a fuel tank/pump/sender. The previous owner said he couldn't ever get the car running right and determined that the #8 injector was bad. Then, for whatever reason he decided to cut the "access hole" to get to the fuel pump and sure enough, the tank was COMPLETELY corroded - Hence the need for all new stuff.

....that is where the car was at when I picked it up.... He did supply a single injector (which I have to check to verify is correct).

I'm going to be swapping new tank/pump/sender along with a new fuel filter. I plan to disconnect the fuel rail and prime the fuel system to hopefully clear it out... I fear that there is already rust from the tank all the way up to the injectors.

A couple basic questions as I've never messed with the injectors themselves on a TPI engine.

First, can I send the injectors anywhere to have them cleaned/tested? Since I've never seen/heard the car run, I really can't speak to their condition.

Second, assuming the previous owner was right about the #8 injector being bad, aside from the injector, what all is needed? I keep hearing about a gasket, etc. I thought it was just a matter of unbolting the rail and removing the clip from the injector and removing it. Replace was reverse of removal.

Lastly, again, presuming the previous owner knew what he was talking about (highly skeptical), how do I identify injector #8? What is the numbering scheme?

Thanks a ton in advance!

Assuming even one of those is bad, I would just trashcan all 8.

The plenum and runners need to come off, thats the gaskets you need.

Yes, you can send your injectors to be cleaned and flowtested by us or by any other reputable company, but do yourself a favor, make sure that your entire fuel system is cleaned, then get yourself a set of replacement injectors. A gasket kit would be a good idea because they sometimes tear and it would be better to just replace them. If you really want to do it right you will also need the orings for the rail.

Thanks for the info. As I'll be changing the fuel tank/pump/sender here soon and as soon as I can afford the injectors, I'll be looking into replacing those, too.

Being that the injectors were 22lbs stock, does it make any sense to go 24lb now? The car is 100% stock and will probably stay that way, at least for now.

Not really, if everything is going to remain stock, then just replace them with 22lb injectors, the Bosch lll's would be a good way to go.

Cool - What would be the price on a set of 8 of those including gaskets, o-rings, etc?

I checked out the extra new injector that came with the car and its a GP Sorensen 800-1038N, which looks to be correct for the 350TPI, but there again, it's just one.
