Servo R&R advice

I did strong search for advice on this, but couldn't find much info.

What's the best way to move the transmission to gain clearance to remove the servo? Can it be moved with a prybar toward the driver's side enough without damaging anything? Or does the transmission need to be dropped - and what is involved in that process?

Re: Servo R&R advice

It has been a while, but if I recall correctly, I unbolted the cross member from the frame rails and lowered the transmission some. A block of wood against the tunnel and a pry bar to depress the servo cover to get the snap ring off.

Re: Servo R&R advice

So no need to remove the drive shaft from the transmission then? Getting the servo cover off wasn't the hard part, but getting the pin out is where I'm stuck. Tried prying the transmission to the side but couldn't move it enough. So I put everything back together and will try again at my friend's shop next weekend where I can put it on a lift.

Re: Servo R&R advice

Fairly sure I did mine in the car with the trans lowered in the rear. Cross member unbolted and let it all hang.

Here's a link I use when someone asks about a servo upgrade.=

Re: Servo R&R advice

Thanks for the link. That was actually my first go-to for doing the servo install. The prying method isn't working for me, so I'll have to go another route.
