So I drive my 83 T/A in town and it shifts in all 3 gears the way it is suppose to. If I take it on the highway and punch it up to 140kmh plus and then get off the highway it seems to be sticking in 2nd gear, even if I try a manually shift it into 1st. The car has been sitting for the past five years and was rarely driven in the past 12 years. It has 113000 kms on it. I am having I high idle problem as well (1100rpm). Is this causing my problem?

 

You may check and see if the return spring is missing or broken of the throttle linkage and the throttle is not closing when you take your foot off the pedal. I experienced something similar with mine.

 

Tv valve probably got some junk in it and is hung up. Try this. With the engine running disconnect the tv cable from the arm on the carb. Give the cable sevral to many pulls and then reattach to carb. This might clear the debris.

If the tv is not returning the trans pressure will remain high resulting in 2nd gear starts.

I repaired trans with kit including clutches,gakets,friction plates and a body valve repair kit for Th200c.still second gear is stuck

 

Unplug the TCC wiring plug. Drive it. If the problem stops, you need a TCC solenoid.

 

My mechanic mentioned about a plug to the front of body located somewhere very low under hood . He connected plug but still nothing changed. It is a LU5 with 4 barrel carb 305 with TH200c.
