Cables on shifter 700r4

On my shifter in the car...there are two cables. The one on the drivers side is the shift cable...but the one on the passenger side that goes under the dash...i was looking under there and i see that it is not connected anywhere. Can someone tell me where it goes and what it does? I want to hook it back up...any help is appreciated. Thanks

The second is the lockout. It keeps you from turning the key to off position with the shifter in any other gear than park. Also does the reverse, keeps you from shifting the trans unless the ignition is on.

Ok. Where does it hook up? Its just hanging on my steering shaft under the dash at the moment? And does it need to be there?...like would it hurt anything if i never hooked it up again?

It's held on the side of the ignition switch with a small screw. It won't hurt anything per se. The obvious downside is you could turn your car off with it not being in park and it could roll away, or someone could shift it out of park with no key.

It may not be connected because you have a column or ignition switch that was for a standard. The switches are different. Maybe you will luck out and they just lost the screw.
