Electric speed sensor confusion

Hey guys, would my 86 trans am 305tpi be an electronic or cable driven speedo?

The reason I ask is because I ordered a speedo drive gear since I forgot to put one on when I got my rebuilt transmission, I took the tail shaft off and speed sensor off and realized there's a magnetic speed sensor on the tail shaft.

Here is where it gets confusing, Before I bought a rebuilt transmission I put several different junkyard transmissions in my car, I have a large feeling I accidentally put a magnetic speed sensor in the rebuilt transmission from a junkyard transmission instead of the gear driven one that originally came with the car but I'm not entirely sure.

Edit: so I figured out I have the correct speed sensor but I don't get how I'm supposed to put a driven gear on the speed sensor. One side has a magnet while the other side has a small hole

Re: Need urgent help

Turns out I do have an electronic speed sensor. Now my question is what drive and driven gear would I use? I don't see any possible way to put a driven gear on this speed sensor, one sides a magnet and the other side is a small hole

that is correct.

Figure out if the drive gear is inside.

To do your car like stock, you need an 86-89 VSS and the gears that match your tire size and rear gear ratio.

Nope no drive gear inside, I bought a rebuilt trans and they tell you to take the one out of your old trans and put it on which I forgot to do.

I already have the correct drive gear for my rear end, now I just need to find a place that sells the correct vss and then buy a 37 gear driven gear. I can not find a single vss online for my car. I think transmissions center.com may have one but I'll have to wait till tomorrow to call them since they're closed today. If anyone could send me a link for one I'd greatly appreciate it

Re: Electric speed sensor confusion

37 is steep.

What tire size and rear gear?

I hope they have the VSS for you.

Really? I used some online calculators and they gave me a 17/37 drive driven gear number.

My wheels are 26 in diameter and I have a 2.77 rear
