Re: quick converter question
You cannot tell anything that way. What makes you think the torque converter is bad?

Re: quick converter question
The only way to know the condition of the converter is to take it to a shop that rebuilds them and have it cut open. If everything checks out, and the case is still in good condition, they can weld it back up.

I had a converter that was acting up. I took it to a local rebuild shop. When they cut it open, a torrington bearing had failed and the fins between the two halves were making contact with each other. I stood there while they cut it open for inspection. They repaired it a few days later the best they could but I still wasn't happy with the performance so I bought another.

Brand name performance converters does not mean it has good parts inside. Normally with a converter, you really do get what you pay for. My current race converter was custom built and was over $1200 and it works beautifully.
