torque converter noise
So I have a 89 Iroc with the 700r4 trans and a 1800 stall converter for the mild cam I have installed. This year when I first took the car out it developed a squeak/chirp/whawha sound (its a hard sound to describe). so have been working on it ever since trying to figure out whats going on. I have narrowed it down to the torque converter or oil pump but this its the converter. It makes this noise at idle and its loud but while driving it doesn't and or I cant hear it over the lovely V8 sound. Could the converter be bad? low on fluid? any ideas would be great help. thanks

Re: torque converter noise
Checking fluid would be a good start. When mine got a little low on fluid I had a weird sound whenever I'd start giving it gas

Would it be low fluid in the trans or converter? How much fluid should be in the converter

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: torque converter noise
Could also be a cracked flex plate.
Can't check the fluid in the converter. Just check the transmission. But just for reference, there's around 5 qts in a stock 700 converter.
