Shifter stick removal??

Does anyone know how to remove the actual stick from the shifter? I need to replace the boot that goes over the actual pivot stick that has 4 bolts on the actual transmission. The stick doesn't look to be threaded on, wondering how to replace the boot seeing as the boot has a small hole for the pivot shaft to go over and the actual stick is too big. Please help,
Thanks guys!

Unscrew the shifter ball and lift the console trim.

No, I'm talking about the boot that is on the tranny. Not the console shifter boot, the boot that keeps debris out of the shifter of the transmission.

Yes, referring to 78 and 80. That shifter stick looks a bit different then mine. But It kind of looks like it has a ball socket that pops on and off the pivot shaft. Nice breakdown, where did you find that?

Re: Shifter stick removal??

Stock T5 stick is threaded on. "80" is two parts.

Re: Shifter stick removal??

are you having issues beyond twisting the **** off, removing the console, removing the dust cover that bolts to the floorboard and yanking that little cover off?

No sir, imagine the transmission out of the car sitting on the ground. I wanted to replace the shifter dust boot that goes over the shifter mechanism. I just ended up cutting the old one off and greasing the Shafter and stretched it over the shaft. Done deal
