transmission swap help

Hello! I just had a transmission go out on me in my camaro. Shifted into third while driving, then heard a loud screech and clunk. Now the engine wont turn over. The transmission was going, i assume its the torque converter locked up. have yet to check. Regardless, i bought a used 700r4 to drop in.

The 700r4 i bought came out of a 86 grand prix with a 350. I want to buy a new torque converter, but i am unsure of which one. Trying to stay as close to stock as possible. Can anyone provide a link for me for which one I should buy? my engine is a 2.8L.

Thanks!

Ben.

Won't bolt up to the 2.8l engine, has a different bell-housing pattern.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: transmission swap help

Same thing, except out of a 6-cyl car.

Might wanna unbolt the torque converter from the engine BFORE spending money; verify whether the problem is IN FRONT of that (engine), or behind it (transmission). Kinda sux to replace one major component like that and then discover the other is the one that's still fornicated. And THEN, yer still stuck with a LA 6-cyl because yer bank account is now empty.

Re: transmission swap help

Note that is has to be out of a 2.8l or 3.1l V6 Camaro or Firebird. There are other V6 cars that have the V8 bell housing bolt pattern, which is the one that doesn't work.

And ++ on sofa suggesting to find out what is wrong first. If it is a torque converter issue there are some posts on the V6 board here with places to get one.
