manually shifting auto tranny

I have a thm200c transmission I know most of you are going to tell me to swap it out but I'm working on that lol. I want to know if I can manually shift my transmission while racing and at what rpm should I shift my transmission thanks for the help.

Absolutely you can. If God and GM didn't want you to, your shifter would just have PRND. I shift my cars manually quite frequently.

Re: manually shifting auto tranny

Shift points depends on your engine combo. Where do you make peak HP and peak TQ at, how your power curve is shaped, when your power falls off, etc. Plus your gear ratio and tire size.

The idea is to shift close to Peak HP and have your RPM drop back down into the heart/fat part of your torque curve or even at your peak torque RPM

Re: manually shifting auto tranny

Well I'm not sure how much hp I'm putting out I just swapped in a Chevy 355 and I kept my stock transmission which is the stock thm200c. But every time I shift I usually shift like at 5,700 pm and drops down to 2500 rpm but it hesitates to get back up after the shift

Maybe you shouldn't be giving out any transmission related advise since you just posted trying to figure out what you broke on your own car.... Hard to impress 'chicks' on the back of a tow truck.
