Can I use Prestone ATF in my transmission
I don't have that portion of my owners manual that'd tell me what to use. I put Prestone ATF in it,but then a buddy told me I have to use Dexron in it after the fact. I admit it's stupid to ask this after I already did it,but I'd rather ask now than have to deal with a screwed up transmission.

ATF is not a type of fluid.. ATF just stands for automactic transmission fluid.
You need to know if the ATF you used is Type F, CJ, dexron/mercon, etc.
You need Dexron/mercon II, III, VI (all 3 can be used in chevy transmissions)

It doesn't say. It just says its "multi-vehicle automatic transmission fluid+stop leak. Usable in European,Asian, and American cars."
Re: Can I use Prestone ATF in my transmission
If the fluid has a "strong" chemical smell, this most likely is "seal swell". Depending on how much of this "seal swell" is added when the fluid was made, it can be destructive in the long run. If very little chemical smell to the fluid, you are probably ok. As mentioned Dexron type of fluid is best here.
