Trans question

Will a stall converter from my 89 tbi 5.0 firebird work in my 92 l98 gta? I think both have a 700 r4 but not sure if they are the same. If not can anyone recommend a good 10in. 3600 stall converter.

Re: Trans question

Can you use it? Yes. Will you be happy with it? Probably not. But a 10" 3600-stall is not a match for any TPI. Try something more like a 2600-stall.

Thanks for the help. I am doing some mods also I am putting in a hsr,afr 195 heads and a comp xfi 280 cam that is why i want the 3600 stall from my old car.The converter is in my 89 with a 355 and a 700r4 that came in the car. The trans was behind the stock 5.0 until built the 355. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Trans question

When 180s are enough for a 525-horse 400, 195s are too much for any street 350. Sell the 195s, get some 180s. You'll make more average power.

Re: Trans question

3600 stall is too much.

I run a 3500 stall on a 355 with Brodix 200cc heads, 249/252*@.050", .570"/.579" lift cam, 3.89 rear gear.

2600, 2800, maybe 3,000 stall would be a better match for yours

What brand stall no one has asked this and it makes a difference as some companies run tight. My precision industries was a 3200 and behind a big 392 stroker making 540rwtq it was lucky to see 2800 on a flash at the track on slicks. Less on the street.
Also those heads are fine I run them but personally would run more cam something that uses all the heads capabilities. Look at ls engines they run a a lot of head on stock engines with small cams make great power then can throw a big cam at them and really wake up. Your similar to my old combo and it made 420rwhp.

The stall is tight. In my old car it would stall around 3000. I could get it to flash around 3300. I think it's a b&m but not sure. I chose the head for the future as well as for now. I want to do a 383 later on. I have had this car since 1996. I am looking to be a mid 12 second car without pushing it to hard. Will this setup meet my goal. Thanks to everyone for the help.
