Rear diff expert please check this video

There is a rear is for sale. Interested in buying it. I'm more familiar with 3rd gen 9/10 bolt diffs, so I wanted advice from someone who is familiar with rear diffs, especially zexen 99 ls1. I tried uploading a video but no dice. I can email someone the clip if they wouldn't mind viewing it but want to find out Does this look like it's supposed to in the pumpkin. Video shows gears exposed and turning.

The Torsen differential has worm gears in it that apply torque to both sides. They don't have clutches like the Eaton Posi. Can you post the link to the video?

Thank you so much for your response. The best I was able to do was upload it to YouTube... If you can't access, I can directly upload and email if you wouldn't mind, but this should be sufficient my friend. Thank you again for you knowledge and sharing.

That is an Auburn, not a Torsen. What did you want me to see in the video other than it is not a Zexel Torsen?

Hey brother... Thanks, and already that's more info than I new and a big help. Wish I had half your smarts on this stuff, but learning.

Anything look out of the ordinary or suspect? Or look like it's pretty normal with an auburn. Heard auburns go out easy? From a very parted 99 'vert z28... These tears did come mm6, gu6 rpo's in a 99, correct?

The car is very picked over and this rear is one of the only things left. He is selling it for $250, and its a 3 hour drive. Wondering why the rear would be left and if it could imply issue. Thought extra set of eyes could tell if there was "cone" or "gear" issues like pitting more than usual.

Any tips on how to test these units? Should both wheels spin like regular posi or the clutch only does this under power applications? I know your advice will be handy stuff to mull over for a 3 hour one way trip.

The '99 should have had the Torsen, not the Auburn. A used Auburn is a total gamble. It might have a lot of life left in it, or it could be a few miles from being a total piece of scrap metal. It would be almost impossible to tell from a video like this. I would have to have it in front of me to make a guess.

I told him what you advised... He bought the car 110k... He is parting because he put a 370ci in there and mechanic cracked a head because there was a screw in the cylinder. The mechanic wouldn't replace the damaged items and that is why he is parting at 144k just for that FYI...

He provided pics of the very front of the rear end that I will post for you below.

Also he sent me the assembly line date by picture from the interior door showing a 5/98 assembly date. I wouldn't put it past GM to have used left over rears from 98 in a 99 like they dos 9 bolts into early assembled 1990 irons and formulas. I had a 90 iroc with a factory 9 bolt?!?!?

Your thoughts, Big?

Re: Rear diff expert please check this video

As far as I know the Torsen was used starting in '98 when the LS line of engines went into the F body cars. If this was a left over '98 is still should have had the Torsen. Someone might have swapped a '93 to '97 rear end into the car at some time. Anyway, no matter what year it is, that's an Auburn, not a Torsen.

Ah, I see. Auburns are LT1, not LS1! I really do thank you for all the support you have provided me in the last month or so through several posts. It's a pleasure learning from you. I cherish my car... And you've helped me make some smarter and more comprehensive choices, preventing any mishaps. You rock bud. Happy new year
