Hi there,
I have a 91 Firebird with a 700r4 auto trans with a B&M Megashifter slap-shift kit on it. It has previously worked perfectly fine but now will not enter the ratcheting slap-shift mode. All other gears work fine and it shifts through them easily. It still goes into drive and drives fine in D but will not shift down further than that. Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas?
Thanks.

Check on the piece and springs at the bottom of the shifter. There is a part that rocks back and forth for the ratcheting mechanism that is not working. I've had to spray lube on one before to get this to function again.
OK, I will clean the whole ratcheting mechanism and use some lithium grease on it. What piece in particular is the one that would be causing too much friction?

The one I had problems with seemed to be because it had some thick grease on/in it that was probably also somewhat dirty to the point where it was "sticky". Some cleaner and thinner lube and it was good to go. It also needs a little clearance under it since the ratcheting mechanism protrudes from the assembly a little bit during ratcheting motions only.
OK, I need to pick up a new can of brake clean or some carb cleaner and I will spray it down and try to get it moving with some grease. If that doesn't work I will pull it out and soak it in hot water and get it to work on a bench.
