Whats going on with my transmission?

Okay, I'm by no means an expert on cars. So bare with me here. The other day while driving on the interstate, I started to feel sort of "kick back" coming from my transmission especially when going up hills. It feels as for a brief second, it stops working if that makes any sense. Is this what people refer to as the transmission slipping? I have no problems staying in gear. On another note, my speedometer also stopped working properly and now fluctuates in a haphazard manner mainly when the gas is applied. I noticed when I was cruising down a hill will no gas applied, it stayed steady on 70mph. But the second I pressed the accelerator, it started bouncing around. I have a brand new speedometer cable and I checked both ends of the cable as well as the gear piece that goes into the transmission. Everything looks fine. Can someone please give me some advice on rectifying these two issues?

Torque converter or motor losing compression maybe
