Driveline Cover
Hi
What is the long flat angled metal piece beside driveline on car. It is between transmission and rear end.
Does it help with engine and rear end torque? Is it for protection?
Just wondering?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Driveline Cover
It's called "torque arm".
It's a major piece of the rear suspension. It holds the rear end in place. It's kinda like the upper control arms on a 4-link rear, such as in a Chevelle or Monte Carlo or Caprice. Without it, there's nothing keeping the rear end housing from rotating.

Re: Driveline Cover
May be part of rear end noise bothering me on sharp bumps.
Noise on bumps is more likely the floor pan punched out around the top shock mounts.

jacked and checked underneath. Tried bolts and looked at mounts. All seems good.
Took pictures sprayed some rust. Very little.
Dropped onto ground and pulled spare tire cover.
SPARE WAS LOOSE. dumb ***!
Shock mounts don't make noise show any signs of problems.
Drive this evening with just spare in back and listen to the car.
It sounds really good for a 1990.
Have had it for year. Yeah.
ENJOY the morning and evening drive.
