External versus internal slave cylinder in a third gen

I have recently went through a couple of external slave cylinders in my 88. Has anyone swapped a slave hose and slave cylinder from a 98 to 02? From what I can picture in my head, this should be a no brainer, but I haven't come across any success stories yet.

If not, has anyone used the Hydramax set up from American Powertrain?

Thanks in Advance
