Noises

I have put in a new torque arm, relocation bracket and new trans mount on my 1986 trans am. I have a t-5 manual. When I accelerate and let off the gas I hear a clunking noise. The u-joints are good and have had the rear end checked out. Any Idea's. I have also non adjustable rear control arms.

Are you sure the trans mount bolt(s) are tight? That's what it sounds like when the mount is broken or the bolt falls out. At least, it's the simplest thing to check first.

Re: Noises

IDK if its any help but, under acceleration the torque arm will be trying to push up. letting off the gas, (when you say your hearing a clunk), the torque arm would be trying to move downward.
might help isolate the problem some?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Noises

To Joe's point: what torque arm did you use? What crossmember?

383 has good suggestions, but it sounds like you've already covered those. No harm in going back and double-checking though.

Ditto what these guys are saying, anything with the torque arm/torque arm mount could do that for a variety of reasons including being loose, hitting the trans tunnel/trans, the adjuster being loose, if it's adjustable.

Torque arm is tight. That was what i thought also. Is there any way slop in the tranny could cause this? (t-5)

Hmm ... if there was enough slop in the rear end it could do that. Is there anything going on back there?
