200-4r question

Hey everyone,
well after my 350 **** the bed on me I went out looking for a new engine. I found a 350 and a 200-4r for only $550

I know the guy who is selling it and he told me that the 200 has a shift kit in it and was recently checked out to see what kind of shape it is in. Its coming out of an 85 Monte SS and I was wondering what I need to do to make this fit.

I know I am gonna have to swap tailshafts so I can mount the torque arm but is there anything else that I have to do? will the crossmember just bolt up to it? what about the speedo cable? I actually broke it when i took the trannie out so I am gonna need a new one (anyone know the pn for the speedo cable for an 85 Z28?) I don't have a computer any more and I have a holley carb, do I need a tc lockup kit?

I am planning on putting it in this weekend if everything goes accordingly so I would like to know if I have to go scrambling around for anything.

thanks in advance

You will need a cross member from Spohn to accept the torque arm and a longer driveshaft. Depending on what was done to the 2004R it could work out ok. If the trans does not feel right after you have done the TV cable adjustment as per transfixleo, then I would suggest one of my Shift kits from Trans-Go with both boost valves, pressure regulator valve, & the Gran National 2nd gear apply servo.
Hope This Helps!!!

I'm not sure if the driveshaft will bolt in but if it is to long it wouldn't be a big deal to have it shortened. If you are interested in an extremly easy to use and install brake for it e-mail Jim Murray at fastbywsm@aol.com. He also has the largest aftermarket boost valve avaliable as well as servos. Check it out. I would also recomend a Delco ten vane pump kit and the corresponding (below 5500 or above 5500rpm) hardened rings for piece of mind. Also inspect the stator support for damage. They are notorious for rounding off.

If you are talking about the driveshaft, it will need to be longer as I stated above. Best way is to install the transmission and call the driveshaft manufacturer who is doing the work. He will tell you how to get the exact length required and what HD U-joints to use.

ok I am having some problems with figuring out where the stock torque arm will bolt up to this new trannie. I have the crossmember from spohn and I need to know if anyone knows if I can bolt to the crossmember....

if anyone can help me out on this I would REALLY appreciate it

I had thought that I could swap tailshafts off of the trannies (700 to the 200) but the 200 doesn't have the option to do that. I figured if I needed another part to do this spohn would have let me know about this as I told him that I wanted to use the stock torque arm.

Check the numbers on that 350. Monte SS's came with the L69 305. Looks the same on the outside as a 350.

The Spohn crossmember bought alone is for a 200-4R NOT using the factory suspension. Call him and maybe you can return what you have and get the complete kit he sells. Look on his website under Torque Arms and you'll find the complete kit there. That's what you'll need to use the 200-4R with your stock suspension.

The 200-4R is a single case so you can't put a diff tailhousing on with torque arm provision. The Spohn xmember is an option; or whatever they did in '89 TTA's (the only 200-4R applicatoin of a third gen F)

The 200-4R driveshaft will need to be 2.92" longer than a 700/T5 shaft. Alternately, an 82 TH200 shaft would work. Heck, I might be able to find one of those if you need it. Would have to check.

The 200-4R mount is where a TH400 mount is, so make sure you go the right Spohn parts...
