TC or Trans?
Hello all,
About 3 or 4 months ago I took my transmission out and had it professionally rebuilt by a very reputable local transmission shop to handle 500 hp. (they also gave me a new 2000 stall converter) So far it has been great, but ran into a huge problem. Just today I was pulling away from the stop sign, and when I went to 2cd gear (has a manual valve body and shifts very hard) something kinda popped or broke loose and the tranny just acted like it was in neutral. Thought I may have heard some clunking too. Waited 5 hrs on the side of the rode for the tow truck, finally got her home. Upon further examination, It acts like neutral in every gear unless you give it a lot of revs, then it will slightly crawl forward. Does not load up at all. It works this way in reverse too. Does this sound more like a torque converter problem or an internal transmission problem? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: TC or Trans?
Sorry,
I forgot to mention that the valve body is a TCI full manual reverse pattern w/ engine braking...a lot of people seem to have concerns about this valve body I really hope it doesn't have anything to do with the problem I'm having. Anyone had a good/bad experience with TCI stuff? Thanks,
Fred

Re: TC or Trans?
i had the same problem in my winter beater explorer. from what i have found it is most likely a broken spraig gear i think is what it said, but also i thought i blew the front seal in the explorer with it stuck in the ditch. so once i got it back out i put about a gallon and a half more fluid and it got worse. i didnt find out what was actually wrong with it though as we sold id after dumping the extra fluid. but it did work better. i know completely different trans and i am no expert but my suggestion is check tranny fluid with car running warmed up in park. if its high ditch some fluid. if not from what i found on the issue its the forward spraig gear. at least i think that is what it was called. i believe i found this by googleing something about the trans not going anywhere in the od position but is fine in 1,2,d and it took me to this site.

Yes the shop the did the work also thinks that it might be a broken sprag in the converter. They told me to go ahead and take the tranny out and diagnose it from there.
Thanks for the input!

pull one of your tranns cooler lines loose, start it up and see if its pumping fluid. might have broken the front pump?
