My rear diff. has been noisy for awhile.which rear end should I look for, to go with a 400 horse 383 I'm thinking of putting in my car?Will any stock ones hold up? Ie: from a wrecking yard

 

You'll need to find one from another third gen.

The 10 bolts are all roughly the same. Subtle changes were made over the years. The 90-92's have the larger 28 spline axles. You can beef up any third gen 10 bolt to take a lot of abuse. I ran one all during the 2001 race season and have just recently put in a ford 9".

You could try looking for a Borg Warner 9 bolt. They were the heavy duty diff offered in some models like 350 IROCS and WS6 cars. Many are only 2.77 gears. Try to find a 3.27 or 3.45 (3.42) geared one.

The ultimate is finding a third gen Dana 44 diff. You can still buy them from places like SLP but for the cost you might as well buy an aftermarket 12 bolt or 9"

When I had my 383 running high 11's I was still using a BW 3.27 geared 9 bolt.

 

This is a daily driver,so are you saying I could just rebuild my current diff.and probably be ok?I don't plan to take the car to the track.I have too many other hobbys as it is.
