T56 swap issue

1985 IROC 350/T56. Solid motor mounts. Last month the t56 had to be removed because it had fried itself. Sent it out, got it back and attempted to put it in today.
Shifter on trans is hitting the top of the tunnel before the shaft reaches its point to go into the tob (see pic for visual). Wiggle room is very limited.
Motor is not slanting downward, it is level.
Any advice? I'm at a standstill.

Re: T56 swap issue

Solid motor mounts are dumb.
Remove the shifter. Try again.
Loosen and / or unbolt the motor mounts. Try again.
Break distributor cap. Leave off for now.
Replace with normal motor mounts. Try again.
Replace distributor cap. Bolt everything else back up.

Shifter isn't on. It's where the shifter bolts to on the trans that is hitting

Thanks for your input!
