T56 noise?

I think my t56 is making a loud noise. It sounds like a gear or bearing whine when driving it, kinda like if the rear end was not set up properly, but sounds like the trans. However, I cant tell if its the rear end or t56. It gets worse when its hot, gets a little hard to get into the gears after any sort of abuse.

at idle I can hear the bearings in it kinda very lightly "hissing". Its been doing it for a while, so I doubt its catastrophic, but this winter, I'm going to remove it and take it apart.

Its a very low mile transmission. It was removed from a new camaro for a warranty issue back in the early 2000s. Sat on the shelf for many years, then ended up in my car back in 08 since I couldn't find anything wrong with it. No idea why it was removed originally, but I'm guessing it was this.

Is there any common issues on the t56 that would cause them to make a whine noise?

Check fluid level
Does it come and go when you press the clutch?

Re: T56 noise?

The noise at idle is very faint, more like a moving parts noise with clutch out in neutral. Whines when its moving clutch in or clutch out.

Re: T56 noise?

A low fluid or extended high torque run can starve the front gear set. If it is quiet when in gear and not moving, clutch pedal down, this could be it.

Bearing noise can mostly go away in 4th gear.

Some noise is normal in a stick trans.

It would not matter with the noise he is describing. Shifting issues yes.

Input shaft

Cluster gears.
Well I pulled it today. Depending on what I find will determine whether I part the car out or not. So far It doesn't appear to have much wear, or at least no signs of an obvious problem.
