Re: 3.23 gears

I've changed LOTS of gears in LOTS of cars, although never that exact combo.

Most amazing difference I've ever got was 2.73 to 3.42 in a 74 Caprice convertible with a 454. It was totally revolutionary. Could hardly believe it was the same car.

Given that the 2.73 was the "standard" ratio from the factory and 3.23 was the "high performance" one, it should make a pretty substantial difference, without being too excessive. (that, from the Dept of Redundancy Dept) With the cam you have though, might impact the highway type performance negatively however.

Re: 3.23 gears

3.73 is generally considered a bit much gear to match the powerband of the automatic / LB9 combo.

3.23 and 3.42 are worthwhile to switch to if you want a drivable, fun combination that still pulls decent highway mileage. You should like it and notice it. 3.08 would be "not worth the trouble," as it would be similar to what you have,

Well I'm not wanting a hot rod it's just the car doesn't pull in 2ND gear at lower rpm say if you punch it at 40mph it's just a turd but pulls OK in the upper rpm

Re: 3.23 gears

I agree as well. What JMD said is pretty much "spot-on". 3.23's will work great, without really much of any negative effects on freeway travel. Then of course, if you want even a little more "oomph", 3.42's are the perfect ratio for a 305 with a 700r4.

Re: 3.23 gears

If they are factory 3.23 gears then they will be for a 3 series. Only some after market 3.23s will fit a 2 series.
