Kickdown cable length for '83 700r4 with carb?
Kickdown cable length for '83 700r4 with carb?
Hi,
I bought a '85 Camaro shell without engine and transmission, and bought separately a 305 4-barrel carb engine with 700r4 transmission coming from a '83 Camaro (without any kickdown cable on it).
Because I don't have any cable on the trans, It's not possible to measure the old cable and I have 4 choices of cables from summit racing : 37.5", 39", 44", and 48". Which one is the right one for my application?

It's not a kickdown cable. It's a throttle valve (TV) cable; it controls fluid pressure.

Aftermarket cheap cables are available in 37 inches, assuming its the right length. But ac delco High quality is listed for a 44 inch for m'y car. Its a bit confusing... If the cable is too long is it OK?

2. Is the Delco cable a "universal" or direct fit?
After looking at the cables for your car here:
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ent+cable,8484
Take a look at the photo of each cable (the usual disclaimer is that the images may not represent the actual part) and note the throttle ends of each cable. Some have a plastic tear-dropped shape end (direct fit), some have an adjustable barrel end (universal fit).
I'm going to say that the 44" long direct fit cable is the one you need. However, you might want to wait to see if there are other opinions on this.
Edit: Updated link.
I know this is confusing....there is so much length confusion between parts catalogs. It's almost like pick a length and try it. I will say that overall cable length may not matter as much as the difference in length between the outer casing and the inner cable. I think this was touched on in the link in my previous post.
Good luck.
